Student: Jazmine Tapia Cano
KHSD Visual Arts Showcase: OUTSTANDING SENIOR
Year in School: Senior
Plans After High School: Jazmine intends to attend UC Irvine with the objective of obtaining a degree in chemical engineering. She aspires to embark upon a career in the fields of chemistry and engineering, as she possesses a genuine passion for delving into the domains of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
What #BulldogSTRONG Means to Jazmine: "Being #BulldogSTRONG means searching for true happiness while following a path to success. It is not impossible to enjoy yourself while also setting yourself up for a bright future. Success is my way of being satisfied with the work I do."
What Makes GVHS a Special Place for Jazmine:
"Mrs. Villalobos and Hansen have been the most influential staff on campus. They have both encouraged me to strive for the absolute best because in reality you can only lose opportunities by not trying them in the first place. They've helped push me to become the best version of myself who I could be, both academically and as a person. I really don't think I would have tried cross country or public speaking if it hadn't been for them, and they've both been some of my most memorable experiences."
What motivates Jazmine to earn the highest grades and take on challenging courses: "My eagerness to learn is what has motivated me to always reach for more. I don't feel satisfied staying in my comfort zone because it becomes boring after a while. A part of it is also my competitive spirit in academics that pushes me to do the best I can."
What Teachers Think of Jazmine:
"Jazmine Tapia Cano is an outstanding example of what it means to be #BulldogSTRONG!!! In the classroom, Jazmine shows Growth and Pride by giving her best effort to understand her work and submit thoughtful and insightful work. Moreover, she brings a quiet demeanor but a strong will into the learning environment and the pride she takes in her work encourages her peers to do better as well. Moreover, Jazmine shows Service by treating others with kindness, making positive contributions in class and in our community, and by respecting others around her. Truly, Jazmine is the type of student who makes Golden Valley a better place for her peers, her teachers, her coaches, and our community. I know she has a bright future ahead of her and will continue to be #BulldogSTRONG as she moves onto the college and career world." "Jazmine is not only a very talented artist, but more importantly, an incredible person. Jazmine has shown GROWTH by continually improving throughout this school year. She started the first week of school with a high level of artistic ability but has eclipsed her previous artwork by focusing on improving techniques and creativity.
Jazmine has shown PRIDE by representing her school in several art shows and competitions. Jazmine's artwork was shown at VIA ARTE, the Bakersfield Art Association and the Bakersfield Musem of Art. Jazmine was nominated for the Scholar Artist award at this year's PEAAK Awards. At this year's Kern High School District Visual Arts Showcase, Jazmine won for Outstanding Senior Artist as well as the very prestigious BMOA Curator's Choice Award (Best In Show).
Jazmine has shown SERVICE by being a helpful person to her peers as well as staff. Jazmine is a kind and caring person who is willing to help anyone in need, which I have witnessed several times throughout this school year.
Jazmine is a shining example of what it means to be #BulldogSTRONG. She is an absolute pleasure in the classroom, and it has been my honor to be her teacher this year. The world would be a much better place if we had more people like Jazmine. I look forward to seeing all that she accomplishes in the future."
