What Makes Nayeli #BulldogSTRONG: A quintessential experience for every high school student in America is the exploration of a yearbook. A yearbook captures adolescent events and experiences that will forever be frozen in time on the pages that were designed by students committed to honoring those teenage memories. The content and elements of a yearbook cannot be viewed in a social media feed. A yearbook challenges students to reflect on all that has happened in their lives in the classroom, on campus, and in their community. For each passing year, each yearbook is stylistically designed with creativity, purpose, and with intention at leaving a long lasting impression. For Senior Editor in Chief for the 2022-2023 Golden Age Yearbook, Nayeli Torres, her major goal as overseer in the development of this year’s yearbook is to connect students with their Golden Valley High School experience. After serving last year as Photography Editor, Nayeli took an advanced leadership role, jumping into managing the organizational aspect of the entire yearbook. The theme of the Golden Age this year is entitled “Are We There Yet?” with a concerted focus on capturing GVHS experiences and traditions that have come back to campus after being absent due to Covid-19. “We saw students adapting to being back in school last year, which was awesome,” comments Nayeli, “This year we have been able to experience school the way we did before Covid-19. As a community we have worked together to create this perfect space for teachers and students to be successful. As a yearbook staff, we wanted to capture some of those perfect moments.” Nayeli takes PRIDE in how the design and layout is like no other GVHS yearbook as there are unique page layouts, custom graphics, and a color scheme that represents the school's colors and spirits. She also indicates that the book captures the essence of the school and the experiences of the students, serving as a reminder of the unique moments and memories that made up the school year at GVHS. Another point of PRIDE for this year’s Golden Age is the photography. “Our photography is breathtaking this year,” states Nayeli with passion, “Students should expect a variety of high- quality photos. These photos have a story to tell, from candid shots, posed shots, and group shots from the various events. I believe the Yearbook team has done an amazing job on covering every possible event and story to it!”
Beyond the countless hours that she has committed to creating the perfect yearbook, Nayeli is also heavily involved in student leadership where she serves as ASB Historian. Similar to her vision for the yearbook, as ASB Historian Nayeli learns about all the milestones our school has achieved while creating new memories for the student body. This Spring, Nayeli and the rest of the ASB Leadership team are working diligently to create some of those long lasting memories for students such as a Spring Rally, Movie Night, Prom, and her personal favorite, a yearbook distribution party. Whether it has been through yearbook or through ASB, Nayeli wants to be remembered as a leader that was action oriented and that truly SERVED her peers. “The kind of leader that I want to be remembered when I graduate Golden Valley High School is someone who strives to inspire others when having a clear vision on something that I want to achieve,” humbly comments Nayeli, “I am committed to personal growth and continuous learning, and empower others to do the same. I am passionate about making a positive impact in my community and strive to create a better future for everyone.” For her commitment to creating positive and lasting memories as Editor in Chief for the GVHS Golden Age Yearbook and as ASB Historian, Nayeli Torres is #BulldogSTRONG.
