What Makes Joziah #BulldogSTRONG: On a large scale, making the world a better place can seem overwhelming. Though one person may not have the capacity to single-handedly change the world, they do have the power to make a positive impact little by little every day. The accumulation of spreading kindness, love, and empowerment is rewarding and will create tangible change. Making a positive impact can be as simple as listening deeply and being a positive influence in someone’s life, to getting involved in your community or a cause that matters to you. The act of making a positive impact at Golden Valley High School is through SERVICE in the classroom by making positive contributions. For Junior Joziah Holliday, he embraces the idea of making contributions in the classroom and in the community through heavy involvement in Future Farmers of America (FFA). As a three year member of the GVHS Chapter of FFA, Joziah has come to enjoy all aspects of agricultural education and is grateful for his teacher Ms. Soberano for influencing him into not only joining FFA, but assuming a leadership role as well. As a sophomore, Joziah was a treasurer for GVHS, but because of his commitment to the tenets of FFA, Joziah was selected to the leadership role as Vice President for the GVHS Chapter as well as the Kern Inyo Sectional Sentinel, becoming the first student from the GVHS Chapter to become a Kern Inyo Sectional Officer. Joziah has future aspirations of becoming a San Joaquin Regional Officer as well as a California State FFA Officer. In his three years and rapid rise through the leadership ranks of FFA, Joziah has come to learn that leadership is defined by SERVICE to others and that leaders are leaders all the time. “What I have learned about myself from FFA is that I am a true leader and can be one at any time,” humbly states Joziah, “I have also learned that I have to be very selfless at times and think what would be best for other people and the members of my Chapter and Section.”

Additionally, Joziah has used his platform as a leader to promote the awesome elements of FFA. Joziah wants the student body to know that FFA students work hard everyday to achieve their goals whether it be a livestock project, metal fabrication, starting their own business, or working in different areas of agriculture. For Joziah, his passion in FFA lies in raising animals. “I love working with animals because of the bond you grow with that animal,” states Joziah, “I have several animals at my home like chicken, ducks, rabbits, and pigs. I enjoy being around animals.” Joziah and his classmates are also gearing up for the Kern County Fair where a number of students will be showcasing their animals on a big platform. In his first year showcasing animals, Joziah will be showing two market turkeys, Bubba and Buck and will be showcasing them on Sunday, September 25 at 9:00am. However, Joziah is most excited about the hard work his classmates and other members of FFA have put in on their projects and how well they will do while showing them off. Joziah is eternally grateful for joining FFA because of the leadership skills he has developed and hopes that others will do the same. “I want to be remembered as a selfless leader,” comments Joziah, “Students should not be hesitant about joining FFA because they will enjoy the experiences they will have and will be the best choice they make. It was for me.” For the selfless leadership he exhibits as Vice President of the GVHS Chapter of FFA and Kern Inyo Sectional Sentinel, and in his love of raising and showcasing animals, Joziah Holliday is #BulldogSTRONG.

What Teachers and Staff Think of Joziah:

"I have had Joziah as a student since freshman year and knew he would achieve great things here at Golden Valley.  I sure called it!  By his sophomore year he was already a chapter officer, this year he reached his goal of becoming the first GV Sectional Officer for Kern Inyo.  I can't wait to see him achieve his next goal of becoming Regional Officer for San Joaquin.  He is a true leader and takes his role seriously.  He takes great pride in helping students stay #BulldogSTRONG.  We are so proud to have Joziah represent GV at all FFA events!” Cassandra Soberano, Agriculture Teacher and FFA Advisor, Golden Valley High School

“It has been a privilege to watch Joziah become a responsible young man as a member of the Golden Valley High School FFA organization where he serves as our chapters Vice-President. Joziah demonstrates all three areas of Bulldog Strong in his leadership position and as a student at Golden Valley. Joziah always gives 100% and wants to learn so that he can achieve the many goals he has set for himself and with his leadership abilities, perseverance, and pride I’m sure he will succeed. We are all very proud of Joziah, he represents Golden Valley well to people he meets through the FFA across the state of California. Joziah is Bulldog Strong!” Brian Watts, CTE Department Chair and FFA Teacher, Golden Valley High School

“After coaching Joziah on the wrestling team last year, I can say that he is an extremely hard worker. His commitment and dedication to the wrestling team is even more impressive considering he makes it a priority to be more involved on campus. Even though Joziah participates in various extracurricular activities, he still manages to maintain good grades. He sets a good example of what it means to be #BulldogSTRONG for his teammates on and off of the wrestling mat.” Spencer Hill, Head Wrestling Coach and English Teacher, Golden Valley High School

“Joziah is a great student who works hard in the classroom, on the wrestling mat, and with the FFA. He is easily one of my favorite students on campus.” Joe Rojas, PE Teacher and JV Wrestling Coach, Golden Valley High School

"Joziah was a student in my World History class last year.  I remember him as a serious student who possessed a quiet confidence and a humble spirit.  Joziah led by example and was always respectful towards his peers.  His involvement in F.F.A. and Wrestling demonstrate his willingness to make a positive contribution on the Golden Valley campus.  I look forward to seeing what the future holds for Joziah.  He is truly BulldogSTRONG!"  Ed Crosby, World History Teacher and Head Girls Tennis Coach, Golden Valley High School
