What Makes Arturo #BulldogSTRONG: To most football fans, Peyton Manning’s legacy is defined by his play on the field that allowed him to win 5 MVP awards while being selected to 14 Pro Bowls. Manning threw for more than 4,000 yards 14 times, including a single season record 5,477 in 2013 which was accompanied by 55 touchdowns passes - also a single season record. When pressed about his legacy, Manning thinks less of his individual accolades and accomplishments, choosing to focus instead on his teammates. Manning explains,” I get asked a lot about my legacy. For me, it's being a good teammate, having the respect of my teammates, having the respect of the coaches and players. That's important to me.” At Golden Valley High School, Senior running back, linebacker, and captain, Arturo Rangel’s primary focus is being the most supportive and encouraging teammate that he can possibly be. As a junior last season, Arturo burst onto the Bulldog football scene as one of the primary ball carriers from his position as running back. Equipped with a tough and scrappy approach to running the rock, Arturo earned the respect of his teammates, choosing never to focus on his own accomplishments. When asked about his favorite moment from last season, his teammates were mentioned in his answer. “One of my favorite moments from last season was going to Matilda Torres High School and playing a complete, team oriented style of football,” comments Arturo, “We hit some goals as a team such as gaining more than 200 yards rushing. It was a great team victory.”

1As a junior running back last season, Arturo Rangel ran the rock with toughness, determination, and commitment to his teammates.

In off season workouts and in practice, Arturo’s commitment to the team above the individual shines through. For example, as some of his teammates emerged as primary running backs on the team, Arturo never complained, instead choosing to work extra hard and earning a starting spot on defense at outside linebacker. “Individually, I just want to get better and never give up on my teammates,” humbly comments Arturo, “As a team we have worked so hard since January and have grown as a family. We want to be league champions and make a run in the playoffs and the only way to accomplish that is by being committed to each other as teammates.” Though they fell short in Week 1 against a tough Sunnyside team, there were plenty of moments that indicated that the Bulldogs are committed to the notion of team. Arturo embraces the obstacle of losing the season opener by showing up to practice every day, working hard, and setting the example for other Bulldogs. “My role on the team is to show and lead the rest of the team,” states Arturo, “Encouragement goes a long way with my teammates and every day I try to encourage them to do better in practice and get better as a team.” For the commitment he has to his teammates as a running back, linebacker, leader, and captain of the GVHS Football team, Arturo Rangel is #BulldogSTRONG.

What #BulldogSTRONG Means to Arturo: "#BulldogSTRONG means that we should always give 100% and by doing so, we can never fail in what we want to accomplish in life. It also means to take pride in everything we do because it is a matter of respect. Finally, #BulldogSTRONG allows me to be of service to my teammates through commitment and support to them and by treating them with respect and kindness.”

What Teachers and Staff Think of Arturo:

“Arturo Rangel embodies the notion of ‘We over Me’. Since January, he has been committed to helping himself and his team have a great 2022 football season. He shows up and works hard and leads by example in the weight room, classroom and on the field. In my 4 years of being here at GV I have never heard a bad thing said about Arturo from his teammates or from staff members. He is an amazing friend, athlete, and person. He’s the type of kid you want to represent your program for sure. This group will be part of the change and the growth we are making in our program and Arturo Rangel has played a major role in that. Thank you Arturo for your leadership and the lasting impact you have made.” James Cain, Head Football Coach and Campus Security Guard, Golden Valley High School

“Arturo is the ultimate team player.  He works hard, leads by example, and motivates his teammates to give their best during practice and on game night.  Arturo shows growth by always giving 100% inside and outside of the classroom.” Dustin Wilkins, Defensive Coordinator and Program Specialist, Golden Valley High School

"It has been awesome to watch Arturo grow into such a great person on and off the field. He is one of the athletes that all coaches want dozens of on their teams. All he wants is what is best for the team. I expect big things from Arturo in the future.” Robert Haskell, Athletic Director, Golden Valley High School

“I had Arturo in my Strongbody weightlifting class last year and he was one of my top students. Arturo always had a positive attitude and set the example for his group on how to work hard everyday and motivate others. Arturo isn’t a loud and vocal student, but he led by example by coming to class everyday and giving his best effort.” Bill Richardson, PE Teacher and Head Volleyball Coach, Golden Valley High School

“It was a real pleasure to have Arturo in my French class for the last 2 years. He was conscientious, showed interest in learning a new language, and put in 100% effort in completing his work to the best of his abilities. He regularly and enthusiastically contributed to class discussion and collaborated strongly with others. He was committed to learning, motivated to succeed, and showed respect and kindness to everyone. The merits that he possesses are synonyms of #BulldogStrong. Bon Courage Arturo!” May Feghali, French Teacher, Golden Valley High School

“Arturo is an awesome student and person! He has a great sense of humor and that attitude makes him find positive ways to interact with everyone he encounters.  He works hard and is committed to being successful. These qualities make him #Bulldogstrong and I am glad GVHS has him as a student!” Darcy Blagg, Assistant Dean of Student Behavior and Supports and English Teacher, Golden Valley High School
