What Makes the Golden Age Yearbook Editors #BulldogSTRONG (Introduction by Mrs. Bealessio, Yearbook Adviser): This school year's Golden Age Yearbook has been a challenge for the students in publications. It has been difficult to get pictures and interview students because of distance learning and lack of traditional school activities. However, this has not stopped my students. They have excelled at reaching out to students, coming up with creative ways of getting photos, and they have created spreads that are unique, fun, and still incorporate a variety of students at GV. I'm so proud of their hard work and the close relationship this class has created in distance learning. They show that being #BulldogSTRONG is truly showing up, working together, and using grit to persevere. This class has blown me away, and I'm excited for everyone to see this year's Golden Age Yearbook!
“My main goal for this yearbook is to make it as fun and creative as I can with the resources that we have. Honestly, with the support of our student body, it’s been easier than I expected accomplishing the task of putting together a yearbook. and I will continue to do so with my peers. I’d say the most valuable lesson I've learned through designing the yearbook is to always have an open mind. “My goal and aspirations for the 2020-2021 Golden Age Yearbook is to create a unique book that tells the story of the school year. Followed by things outside school that many students enjoy doing, that could be shared with students around the school. I was able
to learn how to use online design and create amazing spreads. I also was able to hold a leadership position like a copy editor as a Junior. Students should expect to see a different yearbook style that holds different ideas, elements never seen before in your regular school year. This year holds fun spreading that school student interest and jobs. “For this yearbook my goal is to complete the book and make it as memorable and trendy as possible. Due to all the restrictions this year our yearbook wont look like the typical yearbooks from years prior,but that won't stop us from making it look the best. Expect to see a lot of major events,some may think of it as a timeline per say. From the first cohorts of kids returning to campus to the graduating class of last year! Our yearbook staff has been working hard to cover it all. Yearbook is a very time-consuming job but it's very rewarding in the end getting to see the final product is such a satisfying feeling to see your ideas and creativity come to life.” Destiny Angulo, Photo Editor, Golden Age Yearbook
“Mainly I want to make sure this year’s yearbook is the best. With COVID stopping activities I want to give not only students but staff a chance to have a book keeping record of how different this year was. So far the yearbook is coming out better than I could imagine. All I can say is that like this year, the yearbook is going to be different from all the rest. It has surpassed every one of my expectations and it still isn’t done! So much hard work is going into it not just from me but the whole yearbook staff. Teamwork is the key to success. There would be no yearbook if we didn’t work together as a team. We all help each other in every way possible. If one student needs help the whole class will have a discussion in order to help them. We all know that we can text or email each other for help and that is probably why the yearbook is coming together more easily than I could have ever imagined. “Emery is new to yearbook this year but came in with great energy and many creative ideas. She hit the ground running on her first spread and showcased her artistic eye and joy for creating. She instantly took a leadership role in the class with her positive attitude towards her peers, her generosity, and willingness to take on new challenges. As a result, she is this year's Graphic Design Editor and has picked up the skills needed for such a job quickly. I know I can count on her to best communicate the artistic vision of this year's book while also always showing a great Bulldog spirit. She has shown growth in her interactions with her peers, pride in role within the class, and service by helping classmates whenever she is needed. She is this year's Copy Editor and has worked hard at learning the specific copy-editing skills needed in publications. Copy-editing can often be a tedious and lengthy process, but Jennifer relished in the challenge and never missed a deadline. “Last year, Destiny came into yearbook with a passion for photography. She showed pride in her passion by continuously practicing, and even starting to do family portrait photography on her own. With this hard work, her knowledge of photography grew, and she became the expert in our class. She is our Photography Editor, and her guidance has been so helpful in modeling the rules of photography in her own work, helping her classmates, and working on enhancing the photos we do have using her ever growing photo editing skills. Beyond photography and yearbook, Destiny is able to show her GPS spirit with her involvement in Swim and advanced classes on campus. “Through happenstance, last year Kimberly was in my English 11 class as well as yearbook where she quickly became an integral member of the yearbook staff. As a new student to the course, she instantly took a liking to yearbook and was able to learn all facets of its creation. She worked on weekends, helped students with copy editing and writing, and often took photos for other students who couldn't attend a school event. As she returned to yearbook as a senior, she came in to this unique, and often stressful, year with great ideas and slowly showed herself to be the best choice for Editor in Chief. With that role, she has surpassed my expectations, never missing a deadline, and aiding her peers behind the scenes without ever being asked. Kimberly is extremely reliable, creative, and a natural born leader. She offers support and guidance to her classmates with a positive and uplifting attitude. She can inspire others in yearbook and help their visions of a spread come to fruition. Not only that, but she has several other expectations and responsibilities outside of school that also keep her busy. Lastly, beyond her leadership and aptitude in yearbook, she is setting high standards for the new students and offering mentorship to the juniors in the class. Both her leadership and mentorship have been invaluable this year, and I'm so grateful to have her in this course.
