What Makes Omar #BulldogSTRONG: At Golden Valley High School, the desire is that all students become #BulldogSTRONG through GROWTH, PRIDE, and SERVICE in the classroom, on campus, and in the community. Among the desired behavior expectations are the ability of students to promote a positive self-image, practice good manners, treat everyone with kindness and respect, and by taking PRIDE in being a Bulldog. Perhaps no one on the campus of Golden Valley High School epitomizes these characteristics like Senior, Omar Tinajero. When Omar walks the hallways at GVHS, he makes it a point to acknowledge his friends, classmates, and staff members with a smile and warm greeting. “I always treat others nicely because everybody cares about my feelings and they treat me with kindness in return,” comments Omar. When entering a classroom, Omar always greets his teachers with a hearty welcome, genuine smile, and a heartfelt enthusiasm for being in that class. Even in distance learning, Omar continues to show respect, kindness, and excitement when seeing his teachers virtually such as in Zoom. “I look forward to being greeted by Omar each day,” comments Omar’s English teacher Monica Beavers, “His smile is contagious, and he always has an entertaining story to share with his classmates.” At last year’s Homecoming Rally, Omar demonstrated the PRIDE he has in being a Bulldog by competing in a dance competition in front of the entire student body in which he was the fan favorite and created lasting memories for those in attendance. “It is important for everybody to have fun at rallies,” states Omar, “Through our excitement, as demonstrated in our cheering and participation, we can support the student performers and those in ASB that put the wonderful rallies together.”

In all of the positive energy that he possesses, Omar is grateful for all of the support he has received from his teachers. “Most of my teachers have had a major influence on my academic success at Golden Valley High School,” comments Omar, “They are influential because they are great at teaching, they treat students with kindness and respect, and they are always willing to help when students ask.” For the support and encouragement he has received from his teachers and through his own hard work, Omar has accumulated a 3.75 GPA throughout his high school career, earning either an A or B in all of his classes. Omar’s favorite subject at Golden Valley High School has been art because he loves to draw and paint; Omar has aspirations of studying art in college. Beyond the academic success he has achieved as Bulldogs, Omar enjoys playing video games as Super Mario 3-D All Stars is currently his favorite game, “It’s not just a game for me, it's my new masterpiece.” For the infectious enthusiasm and excitement he has in being a student at Golden Valley High School and in the genuine approach he has in treating students and staff with kindness and respect, Omar Tinajero is #BulldogSTRONG.

What #BulldogSTRONG Means to Omar: "BulldogSTRONG means that I should be prepared to learn each and every day and work through failure, even in distance learning. #BulldogSTRONG also means that I need to treat everyone that I meet, including staff and students, with kindness and respect.”

What Teachers and Staff Think of Omar:

"Omar is the epitome of what it means to be #BulldogSTRONG. He sets goals for himself and works hard to achieve them. One such goal was to improve his STAR reading level; over the summer he read every day and on his most recent STAR test, he improved his AR score by over 2 levels.  Omar's work ethic is only matched by his kindness. I look forward to being greeted by Omar each day. His smile is contagious, and he always has an entertaining story to share with his classmates. If ever anyone needs help, he is the first to volunteer. Omar, I cannot express how proud I am of you and what an honor it is to be your teacher!” Monica Beavers, English Teacher, Golden Valley High School

“Omar Tinajero is a joy to have in the classroom. He demonstrates Growth, Pride, and Service on a daily basis. As a learner he is eager to learn, he seeks help when a concept is not clear to him, and is not satisfied until he understands the concept. Additionally, he brings a joyous attitude to every class session and truly brightens the period with his exuberance and positivity. Omar truly is #BulldogSTRONG and he is an amazing young man with a bright future.” John Hansen, Government Teacher and We The People Coach, Golden Valley High School

“Since the moment Omar walked onto our campus at Golden Valley, he has brightened our days with his wonderful sense of humor and kind ways.  Omar is eager to offer help to his teachers, fellow classmates, and is always very respectful no matter the situation!  He truly loves his family and absolutely loves life!  Omar is a perfect example of Bulldog Strong through and through.” Jill Halling, Program Specialist, Golden Valley High School

"Omar is a fantastic example of what it means to be #BulldogSTRONG.  I first met Omar when he was a sophomore and he impressed me with his positive attitude and strong work habits.  Since then, I've seen how he demonstrates service with his willingness to help his teachers and classmates.  And also how he exemplifies growth through the huge progress he's made in his English classes.   Way to go, Omar!"  Lana King, English Department Chair, Golden Valley High School

“Omar was in my Video Production 1 class two years ago. He brought light and happiness to our class, and was always full of enthusiasm. He even took the time this year to email me, just to say hi. He also has an impeccable work ethic. He's the epitome of #BulldogSTRONG.” Sheila McClure, Theatre Director and Teachers, Golden Valley High School

“It has been such a pleasure to work with Omar over the last few years.   He is a bright and amazing young man, who is one of the hardest working students at Golden Valley.  He is very conscientious about setting a high standard for himself, and attends tutoring regularly, to ensure his grades stay excellent. The best thing about Omar is his personality.  He is kind and funny, and always has hilarious comments and stories to share with me.  During the shut down, Omar would periodically check in via email, to see how I, and his other teachers were doing.  Sometimes he would leave a positive message, other times he would leave a drawing of some of his artwork.  It was all done, though, to cheer me and the other teachers up and keep everyone in a good mood during trying times.  Omar is #BulldogStrong, and I am so proud of him being featured in the Bulldog spotlight! Well deserved for such an awesome young man!” Darren Buckey, 2019-2020 Teacher of the Year, Golden Valley High School
